Autumn is our favorite hiking season in the mountains of North Carolina. The cool crisp autumn days makes for comfortable fall hiking where the skies are brilliantly blue, and the fall foliage covers the mountains and valleys with spectacular foliage of gold, orange, reds, and greens.
Hike the Appalachian trail To Siler Bald near Franklin from the Wayah Gap. A moderate climb to the mountain summit. Gorgeous views in every direction of the surrounding mountains and the Nantahala National Forest.
Wayah Bald is less than half a mile long and offers incredible views. Don’t forget to bring a jacket, for it gets chilly in the fall.
Bartram Trail is one of the most famous Blue Ridge Mountains trails, close to Franklin. A moderate climb to Williams Pulpit Overlook at the top.
The Blue Ridge Mountains has plenty of trails, and plenty of spot to pull over to enjoy the scenery. Pack a lunch and something to drink, if you decide not to hike you can still enjoy a picnic while taking in the breathtaking views.
